It's been a while since Sony has offered an update on the LittleBigPlanet debacle. As a reminder, a disgruntled fan of the franchise launched a DDOS attack on LittleBigPlanet 3, taking the game offline. While studio Sony XDEV said it was looking into the technical troubles, it appears that ongoing issues with hacks have forced the platform holder to shut down servers for almost all games in the series.
In a new statement from the official LittleBigPlanet Twitter account, it says that online services for LBP 1, 2, 3 (PS3 version), and LBP PS Vita have been permanently shuttered.
The upshot is that LittleBigPlanet 3 still has all its online functionality on PS4 via a new patch, so you can continue to play, create, and share with the community that way. However, older titles have sadly had their servers switched off in order to "protect the community and to help ensure that our online environment remains safe".
Some things to point out: any levels published online via the older games will still be accessible via LBP 3 on PS4. Also, you can still play the offline story modes and DLC of the earlier entries as normal. If you want to play LittleBigPlanet online and check out community levels, however, your only choice is LBP 3 on PS4.
It's a massive shame that things have got to this point, and we've no doubt that fans will be disappointed. The silver lining is that the user-made levels — of which there are more than 10 million — are safe and sound via LBP 3 on PS4, so all is not lost.

I thought these had shut down quite a while ago?
I mean, this was bound to happen. The servers were literally up for 10 years and it's time for them to rest. I don't get why people are upset over this when most players have already moved on 2 console generations ago. Still nice to see the servers for LBP 3 on PS4 still up.
Its so heartbreaking to see them being shut down like this. All because of some douches who can't behave.
Sure the servers were bound to be shut down eventually, but still sucks.
I hate hackers the scum of the earth. Its a pity that its down but the game is really old still a pity for the fans. Could you please remove the word "fan" he is no fan otherwise he would not have ruined te gaming pleasure of the remaining real fans.
I thought the Vita version wasn’t a part of this “debacle”.
@mousieone all the Servers for every LBP were down due to the DDOs attacks
Genuinely soul-crushing. This is probably gonna sound melodramatic but LBP Vita was a massive part of my childhood so hearing it's going away is just... Ouch. So many precious memories with that game and some unforgettable levels. A YouTube channel called LittleBigPlaye has some clips of some of the fantastic levels from that game (Temple Swoop, Cyberland, and Gold Fever were highlights), but even then that was only a fraction of the enjoyment that game gave me.
I 100% the original LBP on October 24th, thanks to a very helpful and friendly Russian who helped me play the delisted MGS and Pirates DLC. In hindsight, I dodged a bullet. The game was very heavy on online Trophies, so if you start today you might legitimately not get past the 60% range anymore.
LEAVE SACKBOY ALONE!!
So long, 720p Sackboy.
All because of someone that's mad about the direction the game has taken.
Crazy.
Well... that's a way to fix a server attack... cant hack a server if its taken away from everyone! That will show... someone... something... 🤷♂️
@Sebatrox Yeah but the servers for older games can't live for more than 10 years
Well at least they are still available in LBP3 so it's not a total loss. I do miss LBP. Sackboys Big Adventure was cool but to see Media Molecule come back and do a proper LBP sequel for PS5 would be great.
@Milt "Yeah but the servers for older games can't live for more than 10 years"
Best let CSGO players know this. The game turns 10 next year.

Midway down the page it says Vita was unaffected

And here’s is one of Ryan going into the servers https://youtu.be/e8_9dTnc-oc
So I thought the Vita severs were okay?
.
@Richnj I mean people still play CSGO. Lot of people lol
@mousieone Funny that the PS4 can continue but 'oh dear, the PS3 and Vita servers have to be killed off'. Hmmm, methinks something smells fishy here...?
Sony too inept to transfer the services to the same server as the PS4? Or a good excuse to kill off yet another part of Playstation history? So now we've just got the worst entry in the series left..
Yeah, I'm not too keen on a streaming-only future for gaming.
Scackboys sad adventure
Sad but to be expected. It's awful to think this could be the future of Single Player games too and people are perfectly ok with it.
Hackboy: A Big Misadventure
@sanderson72 its actually not all that fishy. Their point of attack was probably the old PS3 code in the servers. Code that no longer has the means to be safely updated, because how to code for the PS3 has, highly likely, largely been forgotten.
When it comes to compromised code, you either rewrite it or delete it. Rewriting was out of the question.

Disgruntled fan gets angry at the new games. Messes with the old games, forcing Sony to shut the servers down on his favorites while the new ones remain untouched. What an idiot.
A real shame that LBP 1&2 can't seem to get the remaster treatment!😕 There's only so much that can be done with the ps3 original backend sadly.
But let's be clear, the person that did the DDOS in the first place was never a "fan",just a small minded, nasty little hacker troll.
Few more unobtainable platinums on the list then. They’ve been down so long I was fairly certain this was going to happen.
RIP older LBP games...would love to see a Trilogy remaster but seems unlikely.
So the PS4 LBP3 servers are back up? Sweet! I just started playing it a little while ago thanks to psnow before this whole kerfuffle happened.
@KidBoruto @Robocod Don't know why Media Molecule can't spend some time remastering LBP 1 & 2. After all they only seem to be messing about with the PS4 exclusive Dreams these days?
@sanderson72 Hopefully they will refocus on LBP eventually.
@sanderson72 Thing is,unfortunately I think some of the lead devs that were there during the ps3 era/LBP series have long gone...remember LBP 3 was farmed off to Sumo whilst Dreams was stuck in a long development cycle. Think I recall one of the senior Lizardcube animators/ designers was ex-MM on twitter?🤔 Not that its totally exclusive thing, once projects are done some will move where the next job is,others get burnt out on AAA & desire AA/Indie etc.
As to what MM are doing next beyond Dreams we'll just have to wait & see,I guess!
